Our story: helping expats buy a home since 2017

Expat Hypotheek Leidsche Rijn is run by Michael van Amerongen and Nordin Moumna. We work from Musicallaan 5 in Utrecht Leidsche Rijn, under one roof with De Hypotheekshop Utrecht Leidsche Rijn and REMAX De Woonspecialist. That means mortgage advice and a buying agent in one place, in English, from your first question to the day you get the keys.

How it started

In 2017, the first expat families came into our office. Most worked in IT, engineering or finance, had moved to Utrecht for their jobs and were tired of paying high rent for a home that would never be theirs. They had good incomes and clear plans, but the Dutch system was a puzzle: making offers without knowing the rules, a mortgage offer full of terms nobody had explained and a notarial deed in Dutch.

We helped them step by step, and something happened that we had not expected. Those clients told their colleagues and friends, and more and more internationals found their way to us. Along the way, we learned what matters to them—for example, when parents come over from India for a few months—and discovered how enjoyable it is to work with people who prepare well, ask sharp questions and are genuinely happy when the deal is done.

Why we wanted to do more

That dynamic is why this website exists. Working with expats gave us so much energy that we decided to build a service around it rather than treat it as a side activity. So we set up Expat Hypotheek Leidsche Rijn: one team, fully focused on internationals who want to buy in Leidsche Rijn, Vleuten, De Meern and the rest of Utrecht.

Michael van Amerongen

Michael is the owner of De Hypotheekshop Utrecht Leidsche Rijn and REMAX De Woonspecialist. He is a recognised mortgage planner (Erkend Hypothecair Planner, NVHP), a recognised mortgage advisor (Erkend Hypotheekadviseur) and a certified buying and selling agent. His office is in the heart of Leidsche Rijn, and he knows the neighbourhoods street by street.

Nordin Moumna

Nordin is a mortgage advisor and buying agent for expats. He guides clients from their first budget calculation through the viewing, offer and final signature at the notary, and stays closely involved during the bidding phase, when things move fast.
