Leaving the Netherlands: what happens to your home and your mortgage?
Good news: a Dutch home does not tie you down.
It is the question behind the question for many expats: what if my employer sends me somewhere else? The good news is that a Dutch home does not tie you down.
Selling. You can sell at any time. Most lenders do not charge a penalty when you repay the mortgage because you sell the home. We can value your home and handle the sale through REMAX De Woonspecialist, also when you have already left the country.
Renting out. Renting out a home with a regular mortgage needs the lender's written permission. Some lenders give temporary permission when you move abroad for work, others do not, and the mortgage interest is no longer deductible while the home is rented out. Ask before you sign a rental contract.
Keeping it for your return. Possible, but think about management, tax in both countries and insurance.
If there is a real chance that you will move on within a few years, tell us at the start. It influences which lender and which interest period fit you best.
